Unsettled disputes, 4 villages boycott Tehok mini hydro project

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 6 (MExN): In an act of protest, four villages under Mon district have resolved not to extend co-operation to the Tehok Mini Hydro Electric Project, which was commissioned on January 29, 2016 by Minister of Rural Development CL John.   The four villages, namely Chingkao Chingyu, Chingkao Chingha, Chingkao Nyaho and Chingkao Chingpong are boycotting the commissioning of the project on account of “unsettled disputes” over the Throknyu River where the dam has been constructed.

Chairman of Chingkao Chingyu village, SC Chingkap on behalf of the four village councils in a press statement warned that non-cooperation by the four villages may result in obstructing the river which happens to be the source of the project.   In this connection, the four villages have appealed the convener of the project and the concerned department to analyze the situation and solve the matter at the earliest for the welfare of the people.
