UNTABA reiterate demand for settlement of boundary issues

Dimapur, October 20 (MExN): The United Naga Tribes Association on Border Area (UNTABA) during its meeting held on October 20 at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur thoroughly deliberated on the vexed border issues between Nagaland and Assam.  

UNTABA, general secretary, Imsumongba Pongen and Media Cell, secretary Richard Haolai in a press release stated that the house resolved to reiterate and strengthen its demand that the boundary between Nagaland and Assam should be settled at the political level based on historical facts and official documents.  

The meeting resolved to conduct exhaustive meeting on the issue with all the stake holders including the Government of India, the collective leadership of NSCN(IM), the Working Group of the NNPG, Government of Nagaland, Naga Hoho, ENPO (Eastern Naga People Organisation), NTC (Nagaland Tribes Council), CNTC (Central Nagaland Tribes Council), IMTN (Indigenous Minority Tribes of Nagaland), NGBF (Nagaland GB Federation), NPMHR (Naga People Movement For Human Rights), NCD (Naga Council Dimapur) and with all the Tribe Hohos of Nagaland.  

The meeting further deliberated on the need to pursue for constitution of Interstate Council for adjudication of boundary as per the constitutional provision of Article 263 and to conduct more public meetings in the so called Disputed Area Belt for activating the role of the people in the border areas.  

The meeting also discussed on the silence of the 60 MLAs of Nagaland Legislative Assembly in general and the MLAs from the border constituencies in particular and condemn their lackadaisical attitude on the issue.  

Further, the meeting seriously viewed the abject failure of the Government of Nagaland in failing to adopt the resolution demanding the GoI to effect necessary amendment in the Section 3 of the State of Nagaland Act 1962. The meeting strongly urge the Government of Nagaland to consider for adoption of resolution in the next Assembly session as per the draft resolution copy submitted to the Government of Nagaland.
