WCH prez urges for peace, protecting traditions & cultures

Dimapur, January 22 (MExN): During the golden jubilee celebration of Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) on January 20 at Seluophe village, Dimapur, WCH president, Vekhosayi Nyekha asserted that peace and unity must proceed in all spheres of life.

“The unity which have been preserved and maintained by leaders - past and present supporting by fellow Chakhesangs is the biggest strength of our community. Therefore, unity among us must be preserved at the highest spirit as guided by our motto ‘Chavi Aro Küku’ (Unity Our Strength),” he stated.

Further, he stressed that the rich cultural and traditional songs and attires of the community must be protected and nurtured with full priority. “The good behavioral practices and beliefs of our forefathers such as taboo, shame and fear have guided us all through in our conducts. Such immense values in one’s live produce great and unimaginable achievements. Thus, it is our responsibility to maintain our rich culture and tradition and pass it on to our younger generations,” he added.

Nyekha further maintained that the ethical values and moral integrity which had been a tradition of the ancestors should be revived and imbibed by each and everyone.

“Another important focus that we must prioritize ourselves is our economic development,” he said. “We have been blessed with so many resources under and over the ground. Hence, while searching for avenues, we must recognize our resource availability and utilize meaningfully for our livelihood.” He urged to sincerely undertake trading, business, farming and entrepreneurship in order to support and create self dependency.

Meanwhile, the WCH president noted that the most important factor for development is peace and tranquility. “Without peace, no development, be it economic or social, can progress.”
