Yingli College completes 25 years

Longleng, December 8 (DIPR): Yingli College, the brainchild of Association of Phom Graduates and Officers (APGO), celebrated its Silver Jubilee on December 6.

S. Pangnyu Phom, Advisor DUDA & NEPED and BS Nganlang Phom, Parliamentary Secretary for Land Resources & Excise were the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Pangnyu congratulated and saluted APGO for having visions for the future generation of its people. He appealed to the faculty members to make Yingli College a role model for imparting quality education and to adopt job orientated course and skill development education to provide job opportunities to the students.

BS Nganlang meanwhile said human resource development is the key to all-round development of any society. He called upon the faculty members to follow the legacy and traditions of the college. “While celebrating such occasion we must honour our pioneers, but we cannot keep on praising their hard work without looking to the future development of the college,” he added. He exhorted to focus on the future development of the lone college of the district with a commitment.

Recollecting the initial period of hardship and financial constraint for establishment of the college, Dr. L Anjo Keikung, first general secretary & former president of APGO, said with few visionary leaders of the APGO supported by various NGOs and civil societies of the Phom community and selfless contribution made by the individuals and from the VDB funds the demand for higher educational institution under Longleng gradually became a community concern.

He asserted that the founding members never expected such credit and celebration at the initial stage but the dream of the pioneers to establish a college was done out of their love and concern for the youngster and future generation of the Phom community in particular and the Nagas in general. Anjo further stated the role of teachers is to mould and shape the students with quality education so they are fit and ready to serve in any agency at any level. He urged the faculty members to continue to strive for excellence to uplift the college. Simultaneously, he appealed to the students to fulfill the dreams and visions of the pioneers through hard work and dedication. He informed that the college was taken over by the Government in the year 2006.
