Youth Voters’ Fest from September 5

Kohima, August 21 (DIPR): As directed by the Election Commission of India, the Election Department in collaboration with government departments of the state and central government, partnering agencies and the educational institutions of Nagaland is trying to promote voter education and increase the electoral participation through voter registration and turnout, increase the qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting, and provide a continuous electoral and democracy education to the people.  

To carry forward this endeavour and strengthen the action, Youth Voters' Festival will be celebrated with the following categories of students from September 5 to 9 as follows:  

Essay competition shall be held on September 8, International Literacy Day, by students of:  

(a) All Universities/Campuses in the state.  

Topic: Ethical and Informed Voting for All- Round Development.  

1st Prize: Rs 10,000, 2nd Prize: Rs 7,000, 3rd Prize: Rs 5,000.   (b) All Colleges in the state.  

Topic: Solution to Electoral Malpractices begins with me.  

1st Prize: Rs 6,000, 2nd Prize: Rs 4,000, 3rd Prize: Rs 2,000.   (

c)     All Hr. Sec Schools of 11 districts and High Schools of Pughoboto sub-division.  

Topic: Multiple Registration as a voter and furnishing wrong particulars are Illegal, Unethical and Immoral.  

1st Prize: Rs 5,000, 2nd Prize: Rs 3,000, 3rd Prize: Rs 2,000.   Time allotted is one hour and full score is 100. In addition to cash prizes, commendation certificates shall be awarded to the above winners on the National Voters' Day 2017.  

Visit to the district headquarters’ VRECs by students shall include following events/exhibitions, namely:  

(a) Briefing by officials on 'Roles and functions of VREC’.  

(b) Briefing by officials on 'Campus Ambassador’.  

(c) Briefing by officials on ‘Roles & Functions of BAG’.  

(d) Services of Toll-free No. 1950 in CEO's office. Toll-free Phone in DEOs' offices,  

(e) Electoral data of the state and the concerned district.  

(f) Records of NVDs since 2011 of the state and concerned district,  

(g) Exhibition of past and present photos of elections including list of elected representatives of the district. (h) Voter's awareness Pamphlets/Brochure etc.  

(i) Demonstration of both online and offline checking and registration/correction/ transposition/deletion of names in Electoral Rolls.  

(j) The districts can include any other event if considered to be useful or enriching for the awareness of the electors and citizens.   Sankalp Patra (Pledge Letter): A Drive with Parents/Guardians for ensuring Clean E/Roll by school students (future electors) during the festival. Heads of Hr. Secondary and High Schools shall thereafter collect the duly signed Pledge Letters from students and submit to respective DEOs by 15th September 2016.   For the purpose, the Sankalp Patra (Pledge Letter) duly entered with next revision schedules shall be issued to the districts in due course of time.  

Hence, the Election department has appealed to all political parties, NGOs and different sections of people, including the media, to extend cooperation and support towards the above programme and encourage the full participation of students under the guidance of respective teachers in large numbers.
