Those who voted YES had this to say:
• They did massive plantation and try to keep their surroundings clean
• Yes, Nagas are environmentally conscious
• Yes, becoming conscious
Those who voted NO had this to say:
• NO, the religious mind is too religious, the scientific mind is too scientific, the political mind is too busy.
• A big NO. Our forests are disappearing and our wildlife continue to go down the gut. There are a few lot who are creating awareness but their works in general appears superficial. Environmental awareness or any social work is not a one day exercise, it should be a long term plan. OH! And do we have a ZOO?
• NO... no way Nagas have denuded every hill which once had a vibrant vegetation they kill everything that moves till date. Nagas have no sense of preservation and respect for nature which has blessed us with incredible bounty. Besides, that the sewage system in the populated areas and the ways waste materials are disposed are sad to say but pathetic we still need a long way to go. I feel the media has a large role to play in educating the people because unless the people themselves are conscious the government can do very little as it is a collective problem.
• There isn’t much evidence to proof that we are environment conscious. Just take an example in Kohima area itself; rubbish burned anywhere ‘or’ dump in drains, urine flowing along the road, spits in different forms all around, whole area deforestated to build new roads, unchecked emission on vehicles, etc,etc,etc....But I strongly believe that we can make a difference.
• No! Nagas are environmentally not conscious. Nagas are known for cutting down of forest, plundering of resources and encroachment of lands!
• Yet to learn more from outside the states or country
• The very essence of cultivation is wanting and people are still yet to be aware of the consequences of things happening at the global scenario.
• No, not at all. Nagas are cruel, very destructive and very dangerous to our immediate environment. Beer bottles, rum bottles, bulbs and other glass products, sweet covers, polythene and plastics have filled our land. Unaccountable beautiful birds and animals are slaughtered everyday for the special dishes which are unpleasant to many. Are we going to attract the tourists in this way? KMC is doing a commendable job and NHAK’s dust bins are the worst. Get involved, never behave like a donkey.
• Nagas are naturally environment friendly but not necessarily conscious based on knowledge of the consequences that happening is the world. Rather they think environment is still sustainable to their economic demand and exploits them.
• No, Nagas are not conscious. But even if conscious, Nagas mostly depend on jhum cultivation, forest resources, etc because our state is economically backward, therefore the time is ripe to talk about this global warming issue.
• Nagas are never an environmentalist....Example jhum cultivation and hunting of wild animals
• Because we are not aware of our social condition no because mass population especially the rural dwellers are ignorant and are not sensitive enough of their nearby and global surrounding. Moreover, even the semi and many educated are not, with their mind only focused within four walls of Nagaland.
