DIMAPUR, JUNE 9 (MExN): To disseminate information about Tuberculosis, the ARK (Access to Rights and Knowledge) Foundation conducted a street outreach and held a community meeting with the newspaper hawkers at the old taxi stand point, Kohima on June 9.

Ketho Angami from the ARK Foundation, in a press release, said the communities of newspaper hawkers are at a higher risk of contracting TB, due to the nature of their work. Therefore, it became pertinent for the organization to make them aware about the basics of TB and its treatment.

In his address to an audience of almost 40 newspaper hawkers, Ketho Angami, highlighted on how TB can be fatal in not treated, the mode of transmission and its effect on health. 

As TB is an airborne disease, everyone and anyone can get TB anytime and anywhere, and TB mostly affects the lungs but can also infect and affect other parts of the body. He also made mentioned the common signs and symptoms of TB which include, persistent cough for more than 2 weeks, night sweats, fever, and rapid weight loss due to lack of appetite.

 He also urged the newspaper hawkers to be aware of any possible signs and symptoms and seek medical treatment at the nearest government facilities. According to him, TB is fully curable, and treatment is provided free of cost by the government as part of the NTEP, and is implemented by the Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland.
