CM welcomes students to study medicines in Nagaland

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today welcomed students from other parts of India to study medicines in the medical college in Nagaland.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the first medical college in Nagaland- Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR), which formally inaugurated by Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare And Chemical & Fertilizers, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya at Phriebagie, Kohima, Rio said that out of 100 MBBS seats with 85 from Nagaland, 15 seats have been distributed to others states.

Rio expressed happiness that students from other states have started coming to Nagaland to study medicines and stressed on the need to give special care and love for them so they become “our good ambassador.”

More and more institutions should come to Nagaland, he said.

He said that Nagaland is 60 years old state but till today, there is no worth naming national institute nor regional institute in the state.

In the field of higher education, he said, students from Nagaland go for further study outside the state but nobody come to Nagaland state for further study.

‘Build up this medical college as a centre of excellence”

The Chief Minister called upon each and every individual to come together as Team Nagaland and try to build up this medical college as a centre of excellence.”

Rio described the inauguration of the first medical college as a historic day for the people of Nagaland.

“This medical college is a long felt dream because we have severe shortage of doctors and shortcomings in the delivery of secondary and tertiary level health care,” he said.

After 60 years of statehood, one dream project have been implemented, he said and termed is as the best and the biggest project in Nagaland.

“This is the beginning of our new journey towards better health and better care,” Rio said.

Rio informed that request have been made to the central government to take this medical college as Central Institute.
With this perspective, he said, good professors, scientists and specialist doctors will come to Nagaland with confidence.

Later, Rio extended sincere appreciation to all those who work very hard for the establishments of the first medical college in Nagaland.
