Consultation on formulation of SDG district roadmap for Wokha held

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 19 (MExN): The Department of Planning & Coordination organized a district-level consultation meeting on the formulation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Wokha district on August 17. The meeting took place at the DC conference hall in Wokha.

At the meeting, Nayantara Sashi Kumar, IES, State Nodal Officer for SDGs & OSD (Planning), highlighted the importance of SDGs as a universal call to action adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015, a DIPR report stated. 

She emphasized that SDGs, comprising 17 global goals and 169 associated targets, provide a blueprint for a more inclusive and sustainable future. SDGs address diverse challenges, from poverty and inequality to environmental degradation and climate change, and advocate a holistic approach to development.

In 2021, Nagaland released its Nagaland SDG Vision 2023, aiming to achieve the SDG goals by 2030. The core principle of SDGs is sustainable economic and social growth while prioritizing environmental preservation and ensuring that no one is left behind.

The meeting's primary objective was to formulate the SDG District roadmap specifically tailored for Wokha district. This roadmap will guide the allocation of resources, knowledge, and innovation towards achieving measurable, locally relevant targets aligned with Nagaland's SDG Vision 2030. It takes into account the unique challenges, priority areas, strengths, and opportunities of the district.

Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan delivered the keynote address. During the technical session, SDG Officer Abilo Humtsoe provided insights into SDGs, contextualizing them to the district, Nagaland's SDG Vision 2030, the SDG District roadmap, monitoring frameworks, Wokha's performance in National MPI 2023, and SDG indicators.
