Dimapur: NCD and ASTD sign MoU to undertake project at Old Naga Cemetery

Dimapur, March 7 (MExN): In commemoration of the celebration of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) Platinum Jubilee in 2024, the beautification of the Old Naga Cemetery at Lake View Colony, Dimapur was one of the activities proposed. 

In this context, the Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD) came forward with a proposal to take up the maintenance and preservation of the Old Naga Cemetery, converting it into a Tourist Attraction Centre in remembrance of the beloved ones who were laid to rest in eternally, the NCD stated in a press release. The ASTD requested the NCD to allot the Old Naga Cemetery to take up the maintenance and beautification of the cemetery converting it into a Tourist Attraction Centre in commemoration of NCD Platinum Jubilee.

The council has approved the proposal. “The NCD and ASTD had detailed discussion and formulated the necessary formalities for record including a brief Memorandum of Understanding,” it informed. 

The NCD has constituted Planning Committee headed by Holuto Aye, Vice President (Admn), NCD and various sub-committees for the jubilee will be constituted, the council informed in a press release. 

It stated that the Old Naga Cemetery at Lake View Colony was established in 1972, since then the NCD has been maintaining and safeguarding the cemetery in the larger interest of the citizens of Dimapur, irrespective of casts, tribes or religion in remembrance of the departed dear and loved ones.

“Many Naga pioneers and personalities are laid to rest here in peace and their memorials are still standing till today. The cemetery being located at the centre of the city, it is an imperative and worthy to beautify and preserve it in order to honor and respect the departed beloved one's and cherish their silent memories,” it stated. 

Earlier, NCD and ASTD organised a prayer service for the departed souls at Cemetery on March 1 and launched the beautification works which are now in full progress.

Therefore, the NCD has informed all public in general that the “ASTD in now authorized for renovation and maintenance works of the cemetery.” ASTD has already set-up a camp at cemetery to coordinate with all concerns for proper execution of the beautification works. The council has requested all the deceased members to visit the cemetery and identify the tombs for renovations/modification if any for beautification.
