The Duncan Bosti Council’s new community hall was inaugurated at a programme on April 27. It was inaugurated by Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA and Advisor for Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Excise.

Addressing a gathering at the new community hall, Longkumer termed Duncan Bosti, with residents coming from various different communities, as a testament to unity in diversity. He said that nomenclature of the locality, named after SJ Duncan, an Indian Administrative Service officer, who served as the Deputy Commissioner of the erstwhile Naga Hills district in the 1950s, is prestigious in itself.

While the locality is regarded in high regard by the populace of Dimapur in general, he said that it should lead the way in promoting and sustaining civic hygiene. He reminded that Dimapur has the ignominy to be counted as among the dirtiest cities in the country and which calls for civic awakening among the denizens. While insisting that the residents should not have second thoughts about sanitation fees, he said that Duncan Bosti can serve as a beacon of civic responsibility.
Given the locality’s urban setting, he also suggested the council considering replacing the suffix while keeping the name Duncan intact.

With the municipal elections scheduled to take place soon, he insisted that the locality should not make the news for poll related quarrels. He said, “The residents to strive for peaceful cohabitation and peaceful elections. Let us promote peace within our community.”

The community hall, located in the same premises as the Urban Primary Health Centre, was built via crowd-sourcing funds from well-wishers, including the residents. It was informed that the amount collected amounted to Rs 34 lakhs in total.
