Evicted Sugar Mill area families woes

On 26th August, at 5.30 am, about one thousand police forces arrived at the Sugar Mill Complex under the Command of a top Government official. In the guise of evicting the so called illegal occupants and without giving any prior information, the police forces swept over the dozen residential houses and razed down completely to rubbles.

Everything was destroyed including all fruit bearing trees, household articles, ring wells, animal sheds, paddy go-downs etc, worth lakhs of rupees. These residents are non other than the former Sugar Mill employees residing here since last thirty years under the village council permit/patta.

It is very unfortunate on the part of the Government that the residents were given only five minutes to pull out their belongings to safety before razing everything down to rubbles. Because of this horrible incident, the residents are facing untold miseries not only of financial resources, physical and mental imbalances but spiritually, emotionally and otherwise. Adding salt to injury, the concern authorities has not come to help the residential victims either in terms of resettlements or extending compensation.

Even for those illegal immigrants like the Bangladeshis, they are sheltered after their eviction. However, in this case, the concerned authorities have treated the victims worse than the outside immigrants.

Therefore, under humanitarian grounds, the civil societies like NGOs, Human Rights including various intellectual forums may lend a hand to the victimized brothers and sisters by way of speaking out for the just cause.

It is also deemed fit and honourable on the part of the Editors of various journals and Newspapers to carry this message of complete doom and destruction for the solace of the victims and for the concern authorities to act upon without delay in terms of resettlement and compensation for the effected victims.
