GNF appeals to NSCN-K (YA) to halt infighting

DIMAPUR, JUNE 9 (MExN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has expressed concern at the news of infighting within the Yung Aung led NSCN (K) group and said that this is “extremely disheartening for Nagas everywhere.” A press release from the GNF media cell said that “our people have had too much division and infighting for too long.”

While stating that it is not in a position to dismiss the reason for the internal clash, the GNF reasoned that “it must be very serious.” The GNF however appealed to the leadership of the GHQ and CHQ of the NSCN-K (YA) to halt the fighting and “give yourselves some time to reflect on the common mission that brought you together in the first place.”

“The Naga people are grateful for your dedication to the Naga cause for justice and human rights, but killing one another undermines and completely defeats the cause,” the GNF stated.

It further pointed out the hardships faced by the Nagas in Myanmar. “Intolerable material and political hardships that seem endless: total economic stagnation, absence of infrastructure, lack of basic medical facilities, resulting in extreme poverty, infant mortality, food insecurity, and so on. And on top of these, they face exploitation and repression from the military junta,” the GNF said.

It added that the Nagas in Myanmar need all the help they can get. “At the very least, both NPGs and CSOs need to make sure we don’t add to their sufferings,” it said.

The GNF meanwhile appreciated the goodwill efforts made by the Eastern Naga civil society organizations to prevent the problem from escalating. It joined the KUM, NSO, ENSA, and the Naga Yuya in their appeal to the NSCN-K (YA) to cease the violence and make peace for the sake of the Nagas in Myanmar and for the greater good of the Nagas as a whole.
