Kohima, August 9 (MExN): In a move towards creating mass sensitization on waste management, the Kohima Smart City in collaboration with Green Team Kohima, organised a seminar for women groups in Kohima town on August 9 at KMC Hall.


According to a press note, a total of 58 women participants from 32 organisations and churches attended the seminar. The gathering pledged on 5 points of action: to include ‘waste management’ as a topic in church and organisation programmes and seminars; to practice waste segregation and home composting; to propagate the concept of ‘my waste, my responsibility’; to practice and promote use of cloth bags only; and to be ambassadors for environment protection.


The CEO Kohima Smart City, Kovi Meyase stated, “we have the choice of coming out from the ‘second most unlivable city’ tag and becoming one of the smartest cities among the 100 cities chosen in India.” He stated that every citizen has to play a part towards Kohima becoming Smart. It was pointed out that Women are the best agents of Awareness Creation and when women come together anything is possible. In a powerpoint presentation by the Joint CEO, the practical and possible lifestyle changes and adjustments towards managing waste and controlling plastic pollution were discussed thoroughly, based on the three Rs- reduce, reuse and recycle.


The Green Team Kohima led the participants in a group work on the present scenario of waste management where the different presented their collective best practices group wise through which there was exchange of new ideas and sharing of experiences.


Short demos on waste segregation and aerobic home composting were also done by the Green Team Kohima.

He also handed out free samples of the bacterial pulp to all participants which can be used not only in composting but also in Septic Tanks for Anaerobic Bacterial treatment.


This was followed by interaction and sharing after which the 5 point action plan was adopted by the participants.
