Mon: The Chen Area Students’ Union (CASU) and the Phomching Area Students’ Union of Mon District organized a joint anti-opium campaign on October 11 at Chenmoho Village along with the Ganglei Range Students’ Organization and the Tethra Range Students’ Organisation from Myanmar.

The CASU and the PASU impressed upon the brethren from across the border to stop cultivation of opium and to subsequently stop its supply to the Indian side. The joint meeting threatened the organisations from Myanmar that it would make the issue an international one if the cultivation is not stopped.

The house unanimously resolved to continue its fight against the menace of opium in the years to come. In this regard, it was decided that the next meeting would be held in Myanmar in order to deal with the circumstances first hand.

The meeting was attended by national workers and many delegates from all walks of life.

The CASU and the PASU has conveyed its gratitude to K Konngam, MLA 44 A/C Phomching, Shaboh, MLA 45 A/C Tehok and LT Konyak, Deputy Commissioner, Mon for their timely financial aid towards the programme. “Special thanks to both the doctors of Chen and Phomching for providing vehicles and Chenmoho Students and Village Council for the necessary arrangements for the meeting,” a release issued by the general secretaries of the CASU and PASU, W Chohwanglim and J Gojonn Pundsa stated.
