Joint Tribal Hoho calls for revocation of DAA

DIMAPUR, JULY 27 (MExN): The Joint Tribal Hoho of Nagaland has asked the Government of India to take necessary measures on revocation of the Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) from Nagaland and the State Government’s directive for its employees to declare relations in Naga political groups and withdraw armed forces from the public domain.

In a press release, the Hoho stated that while the people are waiting for an early solution, “the Governor is now differently handling the issue by terming the political groups as armed gangs.” It also referred to the extension of the Disturbed Areas Act in the State and said that this needs to the revoked at the earliest possible time in order to avoid any fear in the minds of the people.

It further appealed to the State to recall the memo directing government employees to self declare relations in Naga political groups. “When the Naga Political Groups are in talk with the Government of India, the said notification had varied in different context.  Therefore, at this crucial juncture of talks for solution it is not viable to seek such information from the Government servants unless the settlement is arrived,” it opined.

The Hoho also brought to notice that as of July 25, there were 386 COVID-19 positive cases from amongst the armed forces in Nagaland.

“In this regard we would like to appeal to the Governor of Nagaland to recall/withdraw armed forces and to suspend any sort of army involvement in public domain until normalcy of COVID-19 is declared.”

It meanwhile also asked the national workers to “restrain from any sort of reciprocation in order to maintain peace and to protect the welfare of the people.”
