Kiphire: Call to join Red Cross in its mission for alleviating human suffering

On the occasion of World Red Cross day, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Kiphire branch observed World Red Cross day at DC’s Conference Hall, Kiphire with Takatemjen Pongen, EAC, Kiphire Hq as special guest. 

Addressing students, life members and invitees Takatemjen Pongen said over the years his experience working in Red Cross has immensely benefited him in understanding the value of service towards the community and enable him to grasp problems facing society better. Emphasizing the importance of volunteerism, he urged more people to join Red Cross in its mission to alleviate human suffering.

He added in this age and time red cross message resonate more strongly with its principle of humanity, impartiality, voluntary service, unity, and universality, as this are not just words but the guiding principles that drive red cross, making it a beacon of hope for millions of people. 

Highlighting significance of the day, Tsointhe Sangtam, Honorary Secretary, IRCS, Kiphire branch said this day mark the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of Red Cross who is also the recipient of the first noble peace prize.  He said it is an opportunity for the community to engage with the Red Cross, learn life saving skills and understand the organization’s role in responding to emergencies. 

Meanwhile Junior Red Cross unit for Yangphi High School, Kiphire was also launched during the programme.  Life members IRCS, Kiphire branch were also felicitated.
