Kuki Inpi Manipur asks Centre to prevent looting of armouries

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Kuki Inpi Manipur has said that it is confounded by the “intermittent looting of state forces' armories which in all cases have been executed without any restraint from the police or security agencies in the state.”

A press release from the Kuki Inpi Manipur said that the Central Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs must indicate what preventative measures and security review measures have they put in place to make sure that the remaining armouries in the state are impregnable.

It called for arrest of those involved in the looting of armouries and said that “as the situation in the state is deteriorating on a daily basis, it is pertinent on the part of the Government of India to act decisively and promptly before the beleaguered State is plunged into a full anarchy.”

It meanwhile also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi objecting to the use of the term ‘narco terrosists’ to denote the Kuki people. It said that the term has been levelled against the Kuki National Organisation and United People’s Front, both Kuki umbrella organisations that are under Suspension of Operations (SoO) with Government since 2008.

“The peace dividends of SoO are self-evident in the hills. However, both the CSO and Government of Manipur have championed its’ abrogation. The reason, because SoO talks with Government and a political settlement by way of Territorial Council, albeit within the state of Manipur would reinforce existing Constitutional protection of the minority tribal ownership of land, which constitute over 90% of the total area of the state,” the Kuki Inpi said.
