DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 (MExN): The Department of Power, Dimapur Electrical Circle today informed customers never to ask meter readers or any other staff of the department for paying electricity bills or for any other purpose such as service connection and other departmental activities.

Such activities are to be routed through the office of the Sub-Divisional Office, informed a press release from Er Y Akito Sema, Executive Engineer, Dimapur Electrical Division.

The department informed that consumers are handing over money for electricity bill payment to the meter readers. “This is illegal, since the job of the meter reader is to deliver the electricity bill to the consumers and note down the meter readings for the next bill,” it informed.

It added that meter readers are not authorized personnel to collect money in any form from the consumers. Cash counters at the various Sub-Division and specified locations at Diphupar, Nr. Diphupar Police Station and Nr. DDSC stadium and online payment through web portal www.dopn.gov.in are the only legal place for paying your Electricity bill.

It was informed that the Dimapur Electrical Division will not entertain or take any responsibility on account of such matters. Further, the department informed employees under Dimapur Electrical Division not to involve in such cases. “If any employees are found or caught involving in such illegal activities, severe action without further notice will be initiated,” it cautioned.
