Nagaland, a seismically active zone

Wokha, July 23 (DIPR): The Wokha Disaster Management Committee organised an essay and extempore speech competition to generate awareness on earthquakes  among  students.  The programme was held in LTC Hall, Wokha, on July 23, with ADC Athel O Lotha as the chief guest. The chief guest said that the state of Nagaland is in one of the most seismically-active regions of India. Frequent occurrences of medium and large earthquakes are a common phenomenon in the state and entire Nagaland falls within this seismically-active zone, she said. The chief guest pointed out that there is a lack of general awareness among the people on various aspects  of disaster management and preparedness. There is a need to develop people’s capacity so that they are well prepared to counter risks,  Lotha said.
