DIMAPUR, JUNE 12 (MExN): The Eastern Sumi Students Union (ESSU) has written to the School Education Department regarding shortage of teachers and poor infrastructure at Government Higher Secondary School Aghunato, and the Government Middle Schools of Aghiyili and Akhakhu.

The ESSU said that the teachers for Maths, English, Hindi, etc at Aghunato GHSS were vacated on account of retirement and post transfer with no replacement. It further said that the infrastructure in the school is poor. The ESSU pointed out that Aghunato GHSS covers 52 villages under Aghunato administration and thus needs adequate attention.

It informed that students eager to pursue their higher education are facing numerous challenges due to shortage of class rooms. The buildings, it pointed out, are in a deplorable condition as most of the buildings have developed one defect or another.

“Most of the windows, doors and walls in the school are either broken or missing endangering the lives of students and teachers. The class rooms of GHSS Aghunato have limited furnishing and lacks basic classroom facilities,” it added. Further, the ESSU said that the toilets are without doors and in need of proper repair.

The ESSU meanwhile informed that there are no teachers at Aghiyili GMS and Akhakhu GMS. The department showing no seriousness about the matter even after repeated appeals made by the union displays its negligence, the ESSU said.
