Nagaland: Women’s Day celebration

International Women's Day was celebrated at Heningkunglwa Village Council Hall, Peren on with the women folks and village councils. The programme was organized by District Administration, DLCW-MSK, BBBP & Sakhi-One Stop Centre, District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with NSRLM, CHILDLINE, and NYKS Peren. During the programme, PDLSA Retainer Lawyer, Asungbe N Hau spoke on the topic equality has no gender, while PDLSA Panel Lawyer, Hiekhaindeu spoke on legal provision for maintenance. For the ‘first time since the inception of the EAC Office in 1982,’ the Panso Administration HQ celebrated International Women's Day at Pathso Village Guest House on March 8.  It was jointly organized by District Administration in collaboration with Pathso Range Students Union and BBBP Tuensang and attended by Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH) units of Pathso village, Ekhao village, Pathso Nokeng village, Panso town, and others. The programme was chaired by GS, Pathso Menyiu Hoikam Tangniu and welcome address was delivered by President of PRSU, Zuhing Khiamniungan. The solidarity speech was delivered by GS, PRSU, Chongkoi. EAC Panso, Changsang who highlighted the significance of the celebration and the closing remark was given by Niamkoi, President, KMH unit of Pathso Nokeng village. Shamator celebrated International Women's Day at the DBs Hall Shamator Town in collaboration with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Shamator SP Amit Kumar was the special guest while DC Thsuvisie Phoji and Convenor of SEWA Shamator Unit Ester also gave short speeches. An extempore speech competition was also conducted with participants from 11 wards. Berila was declared the winner while Kihola and Youngtsula came second and third respectively. (DIPR Photo) 

On account of International Women's Day, NABARD regional office Dimapur in association with Youth Action for Social Service (YASS) organized a programme at Tizit, Mon. Konyak women from the Tizit area came together with prayer and a message to enhance the leadership quality of women. Nonile, MSW emphasized celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. There was a group discussion for celebrating gender parity. International Women’s day was celebrated in Tuensang under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in collaboration with the Women Welfare Society and Book Club Tuensang at Town Hall, Tuensang. DC and Chairperson BBBP Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant apprised the meaning of sustainability to the gathering and its importance to gender equality. Chairman, Women Welfare Society Tuensang, A Alemla Chang, shared her experience in setting up a career based on handicraft. The celebration was marked with competitions on Prepared Speech, Extempore, and Quiz for which Ketsinle, EAC and Toking Yimchunger, EAC were the Judges and Khiako, District Child Protection Officer Tuensang was the Quizmaster. Wokha district celebrated International Women’s Day at Tiyi Hall, Wokha on March 8 with an event organised by Wokha District Administration & DLCW-MSK under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) in collaboration with Sakhi-One Stop Centre. Various speakers including ADC Wokha T Lankonsen Tsanglao, Advocate Shanchobeni P Khuvung (WDLSA), Asst Public Prosecution Officer RenbemoTungoe and the Sr Supervisor, Social Welfare spoke on the significance and importance of gender equality, schemes and projects that are available for women, and other issues related to women’s rights. Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) Dimapur celebrated the International Women's Day in Classic Blossom Girls Hostel, Dimapur with NK Keny, Social Activist as resource person. Speaking on the theme, ‘gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow,’ Keny who is also a member of YWCA Dimapur shared about the purpose of celebrating the day, which is to recognize the various contributions and achievements of women in society and raise awareness about gender equality. She challenged the gathering to be strong women and to have passion, gusto, dedication and confidence in order to sustain oneself without depending on others and to go ahead in life.
