‘Nagas are people with vision’

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 14 (MExN): Dimapur Kyong Students’ Union (DKSU) held its 29th general conference cum freshers’ meet Tuesday, September 14 at Lotha Hoho Ki, DC Court junction. MLA and Advisor, Cooperation & Sericulture, Azheto Zhimomi graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr. John Murry was the guest of honour. It was held under the theme – ‘Visualising our vision towards excellence.’

“Taking this privilege, I would like to add my opinion on the theme, that we Nagas are indeed the people with vision,” stated Zhimomi in the customary address of the chief guest. Infact, he held that every Naga has his or her own individual vision. “Many have succeeded and many have failed. With so many achievements and positive changes, there are also so much conflicts and strife surrounding our society. And it is pertinent for us to ask why?”  Perhaps the “illness of our society” is not the result of a lack of vision; rather, he held that it is a disunity of visions. This he held has become entrenched in the Naga society be it politics, the Church or any other organisation. “This is proving to be a setback for our people and this is a matter of serious concern.” Underneath it only lays “ignorance, selfishness, self righteousness…” he added. Nagas must start working by now; he called out, lest “our vision will just remain a vision.” Stating the Kyong as a progressive tribe, he held that it is very apt that the KSUD has come up with the right theme “which is very relevant to our society.” “I believe it is a positive step towards achieving excellence.”

While acknowledging the achievement and contribution of the Kyong to the Naga society, Zhimomi urged, especially the youth of the community, “to be agents of change.” He further urged the students to look beyond government jobs since opportunities in the government employment sector are almost saturated. He though added that the government has not remained a silent spectator, rather it is exploring fresh avenues in the field of music, sports and tourism. Do not be contend with categorizing oneself as an educated unemployed just because one has failed to acquire a government job, he held.

Successful students at the HSLC & HSSLC exams were also felicitated at the programme while a new batch of DKSU executives was elected.
