NBSE on prohibition of electronic cigarettes

KOHIMA, MAY 9 (MExN): The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has notified all heads of registered institutions to inform and issue necessary instructions to educate and sensitize students and teachers on the menace of electronic cigarettes and like devices which has been prohibited by the Government of India in the interest of public health.

According to a DIPR report, the NBSE also suggested that special drives through “random frisking at school levels may be carried out to ensure that such products are not being used or sold.” 

It reiterated that the GoI has prohibited electronic cigarettes and like devices vide Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sales, Distribution, Storage and Advertisement) Act, 2019 in the interest of public health, e-cigarettes is a major threat to health, particularly among young children.

An electronic cigarette or vape is a device that simulates tobacco smoking which contains potentially harmful substances such as nicotine, lead and cancer-causing agents. Availability/ use of electronic cigarettes in the premises of educational institution must be kept in check and initiative aimed at educating and sanitizing students and teachers at schools must be taken to create awareness about the menace as well as the above Act, it stated.
