Oscar has a hidden agenda: Naga Hoho

DIMAPUR, OCT 22 (MExN): The Naga Hoho, airing its displeasure at the so-attributed ‘cold attitude’ shown by the Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Oscar Fernandes while on his visit to Nagaland, has accused the minister of harboring a hidden agenda.

The Naha Hoho in a press statement issued through Keviletuo Kiewhuo, Vice President stated that the apex Naga tribal body was in no disagreement with the entire visit if it was for the political party Fernandes represents.

However the Hoho was of the opinion that since it was his maiden visit to the Naga areas after shouldering the responsibility as the Government of India’s negotiator, it was expected of him that he be more ‘realistic’ and show sincerity to the peace process. Alluding to the alleged disinterest shown towards contacting the Naga civil societies and meeting the people for which widespread criticisms were drawn from various political parties in the State, the Hoho questioned if Oscar’s indifference signified that the Indian Government was being insincere to the Peace Process or that it was a deliberate act to show that his party was more important than the Naga people’s desire for a honorable solution.

Ruing the missed chance of instilling greater confidence in the people had he taken consultations with the civil societies and organizations as well as the State’s spectrum of political organizations, the Naga Hoho questioned whether a particular political party formed the basis of negotiations (in the peace process).

The Hoho concluded that there was a design to confuse the people with his visit and had a hidden agenda. The organization cautioned that such maneuvers would not be healthy and that it spoke volumes on the insincerity of the Government of India towards the ongoing political talks.
