PCC holds seminar on special education

Patkai, February 20 (MExN): The Department of Education, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) conducted a one-day seminar on special education on February 19.

Giving an “Overview of Special Education in North East India with reference to disability,” as the resource person, Purnima Kayina, Headmistress of Cherry Blossoms School, Kohima maintained that “disability can be either genetic or acquired.”

“Parents tend to remain in denial when a child is born with disability and the longer the parents remain in denial, the longer the child suffers, even to the point where the problem becomes irreversible,” Kayina pointed out. 

Accordingly, society fails to accept them and the children go into isolation, she added. 

The Headmistress also informed that there are twenty-one identified disabilities and urged one and all to extend a helping hand to people such disabilities in any form.

Moreover, there is a strong need to create awareness about people with disability in the society, she added. 

The seminar was chaired by Tialila while keynote address was delivered by Hanshila. It also featured a special song by 4th semester students and concluded with benediction by Bichutho.
