Zunheboto, May 5 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Zunheboto, Nagaland University organised poultry input distribution programme for the women SHG groups at Sumisettsu Village under Akuluto block, Zunheboto sponsored by NABARD, Dimapur.

This programme is an initiative of KVK, Zunheboto which has been sponsored by NABARD under the programme entitled “Promoting sustainable livelihood and nutritional security of women SHGs through low-cost egg incubator and backyard poultry production” in Zunheboto district of Nagaland, with an objective to make the farmers update their knowledge and skills for raising birds, egg production and hatching of chicks through low-cost incubators.

The programme was attended by Poji, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, who spoke on the importance of this programme for the women SHGs, how it is going to be beneficial and requested the farmers to make it sustainable by putting more efforts on proper management of birds for egg production and latter chick production.

Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist and Head requested the farmer to ensure that the programme becomes successful and replicable in other village and the chicks obtained after hatching will serve as a source of quality chicks for other villagers. He thanked the NABARD GM for providing such a project for women SHGs for uplifting the socio-economic condition of the farming community.

20 Women from different SHGs were provided with Rainbow rooster chicks, feeds, drinkers and feeders at Sumisttsu village on May 3, stated a press release received here.
