In a first of its kind, the Nagaland Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (NBOCWWB) has signed a Media Partnership Agreement (MPA) with Kohima Press Club and Directorate of Information & Public Relations (IPR) for media fellowship on April 6 at Hotel Vivor, Kohima.

Introducing the MPA, Chairperson of NBOCWWB, Kekhrie Yhome said the purpose of the agreement is to encourage collaboration between tangent establishments and support each other's obligation to public services.

He also said it is to promote public interest and highlight sectoral focus on workers associated with building and other construction activities, particularly on social justice schemes and welfare benefits.

Following the signing of agreement, the KPC will work out the modalities for media fellowship.

The quantum of grant by NBOCWWB to IPR is 10 lakh and 5 lakh to KPC for a period of one year.

KPC president, Alice Yhoshü in her brief address appreciated the NBOCWWB for proposing this partnership to highlight social issues and promote media professionals.

Stating that this is a first in Nagaland, she maintained that KPC is venturing out beyond the usual activities and “taking the responsibility of introducing media fellowship to our small but growing community of journalists.”

“As we ink this new partnership agreement today, the KPC will embark on working out the necessary module of the fellowship programme and announce it in the local media,” she informed.

Yhoshü was optimistic that the fellowship will provide a learning opportunity for fellow journalists to experience the socio-economic life of disadvantaged communities while creating an impact through their storytelling by bringing desired changes relating to the issues that are highlighted.

She also proposed to the board for an introductory workshop before the fellowship begins to help participants understand the purpose of the programme.

Yhoshü also hoped that more government bodies and departments would come forward to partner with press organisations to support the growth of impactful journalism in the state and also improve the lives of the disadvantaged, thereby delivering social justice in the society.

IPR Joint Director, Asang thanking the board hoped that the MPA would pave way for more collaborations in the future.
