Despite excellent results, Government neglecting GHSS Chümoukedima: NTUCT

Chümoukedima, May 6 (MExN): The Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) today stated that despite producing ‘excellent results’ over the years, the State Government is neglecting the infrastructure and other concerns of the Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Chümoukedima.

Among others, the school authorities have repeatedly requested for a new building since the present one is nearing collapse and unsafe however, there has been no positive response so far, it highlighted.

The school recently inaugurated its science stream, but still awaits a laboratory and a much-needed building, it added.

As per the NTUCT, the GHSS Chümoukedima formerly existed as a middle school under the patronage of the ONGC and the Nagaland Government took over the school as a high school in 1983 and later upgraded it to GHSS in 2007.

Despite it upgradation, the school remains to benefit the infrastructure required for a higher secondary school,  it stated.

The school has classes from A to 12 with a total enrolment of 1000 plus students and under the administration of the Principal Karen Yepthomi since 2013, it said.

The school has seen an increase in enrolment every year and face the challenge of accommodating the increasing number of students due to a lack of classrooms, it added.

The NTUCT, however, noted that despite the lack of lack of infrastructure, the school has consistently maintained the standard of the best performing school for more than a decade.

For instance, in 2024 Class 12 exams, the school secured 100% pass percentage in Arts stream with all students either getting 1st or 2nd division.

Besides, GHSS Chümoukedima’s Ilamguale A Zeliang secured the 5th rank as HSSLC Arts merit list in 2024 while Tianaro Kichu secured 8th position in 2022, the union highlighted.

Since 2019, the school has produced 91% or above pass percentage in Arts, including 99% in 2022 and 100% in 2024.  From 2020 onwards, the school clearance rates in Class 10 exams were also 72% or above, including 90% in 2024.

Accordingly, the NTUCT wondered why the State government would overlook the dedication and achievements of its own school, outperforming many others in Nagaland.

It thus called for prompt attention to GHSS Chümoukedima's difficulties and urged the relevant government departments to take notice and act swiftly.

In highlighting GHSS Chümoukedima's challenges, NTUCT also underscored the broader goal of enhancing the reputation and performance of government-run schools in Nagaland.

Government schools today have the best teachers and administrators and if provided with the right infrastructure, the stage is set to usher in a new era of education they can perform at par if not better than most private schools, stated a press release from the NTUCT President Nunsang Jamir  and  General Secretary Kevisato Nguzhülie.

The NTUCT also lauded the   school administrator, faculty and the students community of the GHSS Chümoukedima for delivering excellent result in the HSLC and HSSLC exams, 2024.
