‘RTI Act is a tool to strengthen our function’

Wokha, October 7 (DIPR): With the rest of the country Wokha district also observed the RTI Week on October 7 at LTC Hall. District Administration Wokha organized the programme. Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Rovilatuo Mor while addressing the PIOs & APIOs said that, this Act is to promote transparency, accountability for the interest of the general public. Therefore, keeping in line with the UN set up every PIOs & APIOs should maintain proper records and data’s updated from time to time, so that when required by any agency/group/individual’s detailed information can be furnished on time. He also said that, this Act is a tool to push or strengthen our function more effectively in course of our activities. He also added that, as we live by with this Act, various agencies would improve their functions in many ways that will serve the interest of the public. 

Short speeches were also delivered by PIO/ADC, Wokha Athel O. Lotha, SDO (C), Wokha Vyasan R, IAS also gave a brief report on the role of PIOs and APIOs. During the function, prizes were also given to the winners of the Essay competition, which was held on 5th October 2010 on the topic ‘RTI & Good Governance’ and ‘RTI & Role of Citizens’.  Thungreni of Mt. Tiyi College bagged the 1st prize while Ekonthung Kikon and Chumchanthung Ezung both from Mt. Tiyi College got the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. EAC (Jud) Wokha Zuring Madeliang chaired the function while EAC (Dev) I/C Sungro proposed the vote of thanks.
