Zunheboto, July 6 (MExN): A two-day seminar for handicraft artisans under AHVY was held at VDB hall, Zunheboto town on July 4 and 5. It was sponsored by Development Commissioner (Handicraft) Ministry of Textile, GoI and implemented by NEPED. Around 200 participants attended the seminar. 

Gracing the seminar as chief guest, Khetovi Sema, GM DIC Zunheboto spoke on the importance of handicraft which is a representation of one’s culture and traditions. He shared on how handicraft promotes the heritage of a country through the use of indigenous methods and preserves traditional knowledge and talent.

Rajib Chandra Roy, Handicraft Promotion Officer, HSC Kohima briefed on various schemes of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), GEM portal and MUDRA loan. He highlighted about the ‘Shilp Guru’ award that is being conferred to the master craftsmen’s annually by the Government of India in innovating unique designs and different styles of the traditional craftsmanship. 

Toli Yeptho, Taxes Department, Zunheboto shared on the importance of GST and tax benefits in handicraft for artisan.

Bendangla, National Merit Certificate Awardee and Master Trainer Traditional Jewellery at Nagaland Woman Vocational Training Institute (NWVTI) spoke about the importance of design in handicraft. She briefed the participants about creativity and urged that the design and finishing should be top class to be imported in the market. She also highlighted about the NWVTI which provides free training on different trades such as cane and bamboo, embroidery, cutting and tailoring, traditional jewelleries and soft toys.

David V Yepthomi, NEPED member chaired the programme while vote of thanks was delivered by ER Renbenthung Humtsoe.
