DIMAPUR, MAY 5 (MExN): Different student organizations on Sunday condemned the alleged rape of a minor girl by her biological father in Peren district and demanded befitting punishment against the accused. The accused was arrested by the Peren police on May 2.
Condemning the incident, the Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) said such barbaric and unimaginable act do not have a place in this civilized society. “Action not words is required to check such kind of heinous crime in the society,” it stated adding that this kind of mental sickness should be treated by a death sentence to assure such a depravity act does not occur in the future of our society.
It, meanwhile, appealed the law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate and deliver justice and punish the culprit deemed fit under the law expeditiously.
The Samziuram Students' Union (SSU), while vehemently condemning such reprehensible act perpetrated against the minor, demanded the law enforcing agencies to investigate thoroughly and deliver justice to the victim and punish the culprit as deemed under law at the earliest.
Apart from bringing the perpetrator of this heinous crime to justice expeditiously, the union appealed the public not to aggravate the situation by circulating any news related to the victim and its family. It is critical to ensure proper rehabilitation of the victim to alleviate the mental and physical trauma after the incident, it added.
Expressing anguish over the gruesome act committed by a father to her daughter, the Zeliangrong Students’ Union (N) said such act to an innocent individual must be publicly condemned by all sensible citizens. It urged the concerned authority to award befitting punishment to the accused for the heinous crime which is intolerable and unacceptable in the society.
