What should be the core issue for the forthcoming Nagaland State elections?

Those who voted Peace Process had this to say:
•    I strongly disagree with the way the peace process is being handled, but still peace is important. It is the wish of the Naga people to live in peace, and so that should be the priority. Still the peace process must be handled in a more responsible and mature manner befitting the Nagas.
•    Peace saves time, money and energy and paves the wider way for development
•    No peace no progress. First step for development is peace.
•    Without peace, what good are other things. We need peace, because it is the foundation of development and security. For too long Nagas have just ignored peace, now is our chance, before it is too late.
•    There are so many issues that are important to the Nagas. From education to employment to roads and corruption and development. All of them are equally important. But I just cant help but feel that of all, peace is the most important one. After the ceasefire, look at the businesses that have come in. I know that without the peace process, the development that we see today would not have been there. So to me, peace process must be the main focus and this time we must hold the politicians to their word.
•    High time that corruption, manpower, injustice and hypocrisy should be eliminated and taken care of. Honesty, fairness and quality inputs should be stringently implemented.
•    Its like asking a question to people of Iraqi...Reason is that, if peace doesn’t exist, how do we expect industry people or govt to develop infrastructure in peace, when there is an extortion, kidnapping, killing etc. It’s a matter of environment.
•    If there’s peace, other things will automatically come into being.
•    Election Manifesto is a little better than a drunk vow, such as ‘I’l, eek! Give up, eek! Alcohol, eel!’ But even alcoholics recover. Rio’s government was an utter failure. ‘A solution within 6 months’ was heavenly and therefore impossible, its almost 60 months and the solution is an indefinitely extended ceasefire. Whatever the peace process needs a political touch. Inevitably, it will be politicized by politicians, but its time the issue landed in the arena of politics to achieve peace whether now or in the future.
•    Because possibility of infrastructure blows out of proportion when the region and the core of Nagahood is in a scrambles.
•    With Peace there is an environment ready for infrastructure development. Without Peace there will always be “tax” from every quarter.
•    Ten years of ceasefire has gone waste with nothing to show for. All Nagas are frustrated, and still without peace, Nagas cannot move ahead in a confident manner. Nagas need to put peace as a priority, but there must be a serious change in approach. Peace cannot be found in the manner it is being approached. A new way of approach needs to be found.
•    Peace is much more important than any other thing because if there is peace in our land every thing can develop from infrastructure development to industrial development. Our land is no more fight to be called as “Nagaland for Christ” because we are killing each other like animals. Let there be peace in my beautiful land called Nagaland so that we can call it “Nagaland for Christ” again.
•    No peace no gain in all spheres.
•    More peace, more asset. No peace, more liabilities.
•    Peace should be the core issue because without peace, there can be no other developments. Peace is the seed that must be planted first for any change to take place. The rest will then follow.

Those who voted Infrastructural Development had this to say:
•    Whatever the candidate’s and the different political parties of Nagaland preaches in order to win the mandate of the electorate’s in the forth-coming state general election, that will be like pouring water on yam leave. Why! Because, enough promises& commitment was made by different pol. parties while campaigning for the election, yet the outcome was questionable and destructive. In the last election it was certain group(s) who played a vital role in installing the present Govt. now its time for the Naga intellectuals to initiate & act, because enough time was spent on thinking about their future. peace will be there only after installation of rapid developmental infrastructural in the state.2008 General Election ,it will be Wealth with stagnant Vrs Brain with a mission.
•    Infrastructure is the need of the day. Our state is very backward compared to others, who gets an equal amount of money from the center for development purposes. Our politicians need to reawaken their conscience and start to think about us and the. The peace process on the other does not seem to be moving forward, anyway.
•    Infrastructure, Infrastructure and Infrastructure development only. Last elections promise of solution was only a fig leaf!
•    Before we stop getting beneficiary funds from the Indian Government let us built infrastructure in our land. Peace? It has become pieces... to talk about peace in Nagaland is like compelling dogs to have its horns... Lets first prevail peace within our own homes b4 we go out to the Nagas in general.
•    We need to see proper walls, roads, buildings, pavements, and other equally important forms of infrastructural development. we need to see the outline of our future to inspire us.
•    I want to see it developing while I’m living.
•    If we take a good look at our state, we’d find that we are very backward in every sphere. They could begin by hanging the persons responsible for filling road potholes with mud/earth, and then get on with proper road repair.

Those who voted Others had this to say:
•    Peace process and Infrastructure development are all very equally important. There are however some things which are important as well and which we tend to overlook, just because they do not seem to affect us in direct ways. Issues like employment, health care, HIV/AIDS, education are all very important, and if we are to have peace, all these issues must be addressed as a component of peace, not outside of it. For too long Nagas have avoided very important issues just because we feel they do not influence vote bank.
•    From the last few elections, it is obvious that the state politicians are not serious about the peace process and it is very difficult to hold them responsible to the peace process. But there are other issues such as education, health, road building, corruption, employment, where we can hold them accountable.
•    Downtrodden areas should be developed at the earliest cos’ whenever we see their conditions, my tears and my heart never meets. Then only the rest of the thing should comes in.
