Dimapur, July 18 (MExN): The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) extended support to the Nagaland In-Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) in its demand for the review of the cabinet decision on the superannuation of government doctors, stating that the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26, 2016 is yet to be fulfilled.
“There is an acute shortage of doctors in our state especially in rural areas and by increasing their retirement age, it would serve as a respite from the acute shortage. In addition to this, the two newly upcoming medical colleges in Kohima and Mon district would require a huge number of doctors to run,” it said in a press release on Monday.
Additionally, the WSH pointed out that, with the creation of the four new districts, the state would require additional doctors to cater the needs of the rising population as many vacancies would be needed to fill up. It therefore appealed to the state government to look into the NIDA‘s demand “which is genuine and legitimate.”
