Three persons, a man and two women, were arrested with 590 grams of drug suspected to be heroin powder by police in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Monday night. The arrests were made on two occasions. In the first case, two persons identified as Paominlen, (29), son of Jangneilun of Moreh Ward No. 2 and Nengdeidim, (28) were arrested.

They were arrested after the suspected heroin powder packed in 20 soap cases was detected in a vehicle they were travelling in along the Sugnu Road towards Churachandpur town on Monday allegedly to deliver the drug to a person in the town.

They have been booked under section 21(c) ND&PS Act and investigation is on, a police said.

The operation to nab the drug peddlers was launched based on a reliable information about the movement of a drug consignment to deliver to a person in Churachandpur town. Based on the information, Churachandpur district police set up a temporary check post at various prominent locations along the road from Sugnu to Churachandpur.

At around 7.50 pm, one Bolero vehicle was spotted at Red Cross Road and was stopped for checking. The occupants inside acted suspiciously and as such the vehicle was brought to the Churachandpur police station, the police said.

On thorough checking of the vehicle, the police team along with the women police team found one black polythene bag in the front seat which contained 20 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder and also one transparent plastic containing suspected heroin powder.

On questioning them, the occupants of the vehicle revealed that the item was meant for one person called Manneihoi, (44), of Red Cross Road.

Since there was a high chance that the said person might abscond, the police team including the women police team immediately made a search for the lady and arrested her from her house and brought her to the police station.
The three arrested persons admitted that items belong to them, the police added.
