World renowned Indian-born Christian Apologist, Ravi Zacharias died today at his home in Atlanta, United States.

 

He was 74 and is survived by Margie, his wife of 48-years; his three children:—Sarah Davies, the Global CEO of RZIM, Naomi, Director of Wellspring International, and Nathan, RZIM’s Creative Director for Media; and five grandchildren.

 

Zacharias was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer in early March this year, The Morung Express had reported earlier. (Read here: ‘The world still needs him’)

 

“This morning, our beloved founder and apologist Ravi Zacharias went home to be with Jesus,” the official Twitter handle of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) updated on Tuesday.

 

Founded in 1984 by Ravi Zacharias, RZIM brings the gospel of Jesus Christ to millions around the world, its website informed.

 

As per an obituary on RZIM’s website, Frederick Antony Ravi Kumar Zacharias was born in Madras, now Chennai, in 1946.

 

Zacharias, recovering in a Delhi hospital at age 17 after attempting to take his own life, was “read the words of Jesus recorded in the Bible by the apostle John 14:19,’Because I live, you will also live’.”

 

“In response, Zacharias surrendered his life to Christ and offered up a prayer that if he emerged from the hospital, he would leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of truth. Once Zacharias found the truth of the gospel, his passion for sharing it burned bright until the very end,” the obituary informed.

 

Since then, Zacharias has touched thousands of lives around the world and has also hugely impacted the lives of the Christian-majority state of Nagaland with many people looking up to him as the real defender of the Christian faith.
