The Naga Nationalist Council, Lotha Region observed Plebiscite Day at the Lotha Hoho Ki in Wokha on May 16.
During the programme, Yihamo Patton, Vice President and ECE member, delivered a briefing of the Naga Nationalist Council’s formation in 1951. In his address, he conveyed a sense of dismay regarding the diminishing acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by previous council members who underwent rigorous training, shed blood and even sacrificed their lives for the nation’s cause.

He also expressed concern over declining membership compared to earlier times when large crowds attended programs. He, at the same time, espoused belief that Nagas would achieve independence soon.

Lotha Hoho Chairman, Er Mhondamo Ovung lauded the NNC Lotha Region for observing the day, affirming the Nagas’ inherent right to freedom, citing their distinct creation by God. Ovung underlined the critical need to safeguard culture and language as pillars of Naga identity, expressing dismay over the current generation’s apparent negligence for customs and traditions.
He also called for unity among different Naga political groups, expressing optimism about achieving long-awaited Naga independence.

The programme was chaired by the NNC Lotha Region President an invocation prayer led by Nphy of Sanis Region. Tsumomo of Chanpang Region delivered a prayer commemorating Plebiscite Day followed by the vote of thanks by Yantsow Murry, and benediction by Pikhomo (Sungro Region).
