Citizens’ forum encourage toppers

DIMAPUR, May 21 (MExN): Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) organised a felicitation programme for students from Dimapur who excelled at the recently declared HSLC and HSSLC 2011 examination results. The function was hosted at the Town Hall on Saturday, May 21 as a gesture of encouragement to the students.  
Forty-seven students from the district had made it to the top-50 of the High School Leaving Certificate examinations. In the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate examinations eighteen made it to the top-20; nine in Commerce, six in Science and three in Arts. Schools with hundred percent pass results were also felicitated.
People representing various organizations of the district, irrespective of colour and race attended the programme, besides parents and family of the toppers. DDCF, for the record is a joint forum comprising of the various civil organizations of Dimapur district. It was formed in May 2010 with the objective of fostering mutual respect and harmony amongst the several communities and peoples, who have made Dimapur their home. At present, the forum has Hokiye Yepthomi serving as the president and I. Temjen Jamir as the general secretary.
“I am indeed impressed by the way DDCF has organised this very important function inorder to encourage our young friends”, expressed MLA and NPCC president SI Jamir, who was in attendance. He is also an advisor to the forum. “I wish and look forward that the same performance which you’ve shown (today) be continued in your future academic endeavours.” He hoped that one day in the future, when the students will have completed their studies and go about making a living, would remember the goodwill of the people of Dimapur as well as contributing to its welfare.
On the formation of the forum, he said that it is a joint platform encompassing all the people of the cosmopolitan district, irrespective of tribe, caste or race. He thus, wished the forum will take up issues pertaining to public interest, leaving aside political or religious differences. “… We may be from different backgrounds yet we’re one in a place where communal riots is not known. People from other towns and cities of the country should learn from Dimapur.” Living upto the core aim of the forum, he expressed hope that it will stay above mere party politics and other differences that may exist.
