The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisation (CoMSO) has demanded that the state government looks into the present imbroglio between GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) and its employees in Meghalaya or to hand over this issue for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

This demand has come about after CoMSO members had met with the GVK EMRI employees on Tuesday to get their inputs on the present situation where the employees have announced on Monday that they will continue their indefinite strike in pursuit of a number of demands.

“We demand that the state government calls these employees for talks as we are convinced that their demands are legitimate,” CoMSO’s Treiborlang Suchen said on Tuesday.

He also stressed the need for such talks to be expedited while underlining the fact that the 108 emergency services run by GVK EMRI are an important component of public health and medical care.

“We have also been informed that GVK EMRI has been indulging in a number of activities which are not acceptable,” Suchen said without specifying what he was referring to.

Accusing GVK EMRI of compromising on the needs of the employees to maximize profits, Suchen said, “We demand that the state government initiates an independent inquiry or hand over this issue for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).”

“The emergency and ambulance service is necessary for the wellbeing of the people and we don’t agree with the decision to contractualize this service to ‘businessmen’ who only think of profits,” Suchen said. As such, CoMSO has also demanded that the state government takes over the emergency services in the state after cancelling the contract with GVK EMRI.
