Nagaland: ‘Khelo India represents vision of healthier, fitter, more vibrant India’

The three day long State Level Inter Khelo India Centre Tournament 2024 concluded today at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Limawabang Jamir, secretary Food & Civil Supplies, Government of Nagaland and president Nagaland Civil Services Association said that Khelo India represents a vision- vision of healthier, fitter and more vibrant India.

“It is a vision that places sports at the forefront of our national agenda, recognizing the transformative power of athletics in shaping lives and communities,” he said.

Through the initiatives like the Khelo India Centre tournament, he said “We have seen young athletes from across the districts showcasing their skills, dedication and passion for sports.”

Jamir said that Khelo India movement has had a positive impact on sportsmen and sportswomen in Nagaland, continuing to the development of sporting talent and the overall growth of sports culture in the state.

He maintained that talent identification at the grassroots level has helped discover promising young athletes from various districts of the state.

The Khelo India movement has led to significant improvements in sports infrastructure in Nagaland by investing in the construction and renovation of sports facilities, stadiums, training centers, and playground, he said adding that “This has provided better training environments and playing fields for athletes across different sports discipline.”

He continued that Khelo India movement emphasises the importance of quality coaching and training for athletics, adding that experienced coaches and trainers have been engaged in Nagaland to provide specialized coaching in various sports disciplines.

He called upon the athletes to carry forward the spirit of Khelo India in their hearts and minds.

“Let us continue to promote sports and fitness as integral components of our national identity. Let us strive to create more opportunities, better infrastructure and a conducive environment for our athletes to thrive and succeed on the global state. Let us keep the flames of Khelo India burning bright, lighting the way for the future generations of athletes to follow,” Jamir said.

The programme was chaired by Anthony Ngully, secretary to Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland while welcome address was delivered by Kethosituo Sekhose, director, Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland. Vote of thanks was proposed by Jakedovo Chase, Deputy Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland.
