The 38th Mokokchung District Open Badminton Championship 2026 concluded at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Mokokchung on July 23 after three days of competition.
Organised by the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA), the championship was held from July 21 to 23 and featured 67 players, including 49 boys and men and 18 girls, competing across 18 categories, including the veterans’ division.
Soulhouse Academy Administrator Arenla Lemtur, who attended the closing ceremony as the special guest, said sports help young people develop leadership, teamwork, discipline, resilience and humility.
She urged parents, schools and the community to encourage children to take up sports, saying participation helps build confidence, discipline and good health. She also lauded the MDBA for providing a platform for young players and encouraged participants to remain committed through both victories and setbacks.
Among the winners, Senpor A. Jamir won the Under-9 Boys’ Singles title, while Arenienla Jamir claimed the Under-9 Girls’ Singles crown. Temsumanen won the Under-11 Boys’ Singles, while Yatetla and Molumen won the Under-11 Girls’ Doubles title and Limsang and I. Temsumanen emerged champions in the Under-11 Boys’ Doubles.
Moatangit Tzudir won the Under-13 Boys’ Singles title, while Wapanginla clinched the Under-13 Girls’ Singles crown. Wapangienla and Molungnenla Longkumer won the Under-13 Girls’ Doubles, while Moatangit Tzudir and Lenjener secured the Under-13 Boys’ Doubles title.
Imchalong won the Under-15 Boys’ Singles, while Imchalong Lemtur and Imkongnochet Lemtur claimed the Under-15 Boys’ Doubles title. Mesensen emerged champion in the Under-17 Boys’ Singles and also partnered Arkutong to win the Under-17 Boys’ Doubles.
In the junior events, Wacha won the Junior Boys’ Singles and, along with Wapongsen, claimed the Junior Boys’ Doubles title. Yalemjungla won the Junior Girls’ Singles.
Alang and Neehal emerged champions in the Senior Men’s Doubles, while Imliakum and Imnayanger won the 35+ Men’s Doubles title.
The championship concluded with the final matches followed by the prize distribution ceremony.
