48th Inter-District and State Badminton C’hip begins in Mon

MON, SEPTEMBER 1 (MExN): The 48th Inter-District and State Badminton Championship 2026 began at the Main Indoor Stadium, Mon, on September 1, with participants from across Nagaland taking part in the four-day tournament.

The championship, hosted by the Mon District Badminton Association as part of the 75 Years of Mon Town celebrations, will continue till September 4.

Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland, Abu Metha, who is also Secretary General of the Nagaland Olympic Association and President of the Nagaland Athletic Association, attended the inaugural programme as special guest.

Metha thanked the Mon District Badminton Association and the people of Mon for hosting the championship, saying organising such an event in a far-flung district was not easy. He said sports required “hard work” and that there was “no shortcut, no back door appointment and no recommendation needed” to succeed in sports.

Metha encouraged the players to compete with discipline, commitment and punctuality, and said sport provided a platform to serve the State and country. He expressed hope that the championship would serve as a stepping stone for players to reach higher levels and urged them to promote peace and unity.

Metha later declared the 48th Inter-District and State Badminton Championship 2026 open.

The programme was chaired by Eji Wangnyu. Deputy Commissioner Mon Wennyei Konyak, who is also Planning Convenor and Senior Vice President of the Nagaland Badminton Association, delivered the welcome address.
