GB Union Dimapur flags health concerns over pig carcass disposal

Dimapur, September 1 (MExN): The GB Union Dimapur Sadar (GBUD-S) has expressed concern over the disposal of dead pig carcasses in a nallah/river and called for stricter monitoring of pig farms in the district.

In a statement, the union conveyed its support to the Niu Colony Council and GBs on the issue.

Referring to a news report by a local digital outlet that a pig farm was not being managed hygienically, with meat and innards reportedly being discarded randomly within the farm premises and into a nallah, the GBUD (S)  said the practice was a “dire health issue” for residents of the locality.

The union urged the Veterinary Department to effectively monitor pig farms within its jurisdiction on a daily basis, citing the potential consequences for public health. It also requested the district administration and Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to inspect the farm and take appropriate action.

The GBUD (S)  further cautioned pig farm managements that if farms were not properly managed as per the prescribed norms, it would pursue the matter with the concerned competent authority for negligence and cancellation of the farm permit.
