2 arrested and 14 ‘soap cases’ recovered

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force of the Mon Police has disrupted another drug supply chain with suspected links to Myanmar. Two persons were arrested and 14 “soap cases” containing suspected narcotic drugs were recovered following a three-day long coordinated operation involving the Naginimora Police Station, Mon QRT and Mon Police Station under the supervision of the Mon and Tizit SDPOs. The two accused were arrested from Naginimora on August 31. Their arrest led to the recovery of the suspected drug cache from Wakching village the same day, per a Mon police official.
A press release from the Mon police said that the accused persons concealed the drugs underground before proceeding to a different location to evade arrest. The police were however able to close in on them “through intelligence-based inputs and field efforts.”
The preliminary investigation pointed to the consignment originating in Myanmar. It was then suspected to have been picked up by the arrested duo from a village located along the international border. “Further investigation is underway to identify the source, intended recipients, financial trail and other persons involved in the trafficking network,” the release said.
The haul came less than two weeks after the Mon police busted an inter-state drug network. On August 19 and 20, the Mon police in coordination with the Charaideo (Assam) police recovered approximately 800 gram of suspected ‘shanflower.’ Six person were arrested in this connection— three from Mon, one from Sonari (Charaideo, Assam) and two from Dimapur.
Bank records of one of the principal accused linked to this case had not less than Rs 20 crore in transactions over the last ten years. The police suspect that the money transacted was proceeds of drug trafficking. The account saw heightened activity in the weeks leading up to the arrest. As per the release, approximately Rs 74.45 lakh was credited during July 2026, while approximately Rs 80.22 lakh was credited during August 2026 (till August 20) and approximately Rs 30.43 lakh was credited during the last 5(five) days just before the arrest.
“The nature and source of these transactions, including any possible linkage with proceeds arising from illegal drug trafficking, are presently under detailed investigation and verification,” it said.
While stating that the organised nature of drug trafficking demands sustained cooperation between law-enforcement agencies and local communities, the Mon police appealed to the residents, village authorities and civil society organisations of all bordering villages to extend their cooperation in the ongoing campaign against narcotic drugs. It added, “unusual movement of persons, or activities suspected to be connected with drug trafficking may immediately be brought to the notice of the nearest police station or Mon police.”
The release said that the Mon police is also coordinating with the Assam Rifles, Assam Police, Police Headquarters Nagaland, and other concerned agencies for strengthening vigilance along vulnerable international border areas for preventing the movement of narcotic drugs and other contraband.
