Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS) of Manipur police will start monitoring 1social media platforms on fake/unsubstantiated news regarding COVID-19 which could have law and order ramifications.
An official source said that the monitoring of social media platforms is to be done in pursuance of an order of the Supreme Court passed on March 31, 2020.
The order strictly directed all concerns to refrain from spreading unverified/fake news on social media or otherwise in view of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
Anyone found indulging in such activities are liable to be prosecuted under appropriate sections of law including section 54 of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, the source said.
