DBSU crowns Mr & Miss Bengali 2018

Dimapur, July 2 (MExN): Dimapur Bengali Students’ Union (DBSU) organised its annual Mr. and Miss. Bengali contest here at Durga Mandir auditorium on July 1.

Sujan Dey of Unity College and Ankita Bhadra of Kendra Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School were crowned Mr. Bengali and Miss Bengali respectively for the year 2018.

Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA, Dimapur II A/C attended the event as a special invitee. He cautioned the attending students who recently passed their HSLC and HSSLC examinations that they should remember this is only the beginning and there is a long way to go.

He asked them to join colleges not just for the sake of attending, but to learn and remember that there is no place anymore for students who are lazy and mediocre, stated a press release.

Bengali community in Nagaland, he further stated, has been contributing much towards the society, which includes even producing IAS officers. Moatoshi asked the community to make Dimapur their home and work together with others to make it a better place.

Prof. (Rtd.) Debasish Dutta in his brief remark said people outside the State has a very wrong notion about Nagaland when it is a rather peaceful place to be. Though Bengalis living in Nagaland are not Nagas, they are but very much a part of the society, he added, and asked the students to take responsibility and improve the society.

The programme was dotted with colourful cultural performances put up by the students. On the occasion, rank holders of HSLC and HSSLC examinations 2018 from all communities were also felicitated.
