DoHFW informs on ‘plastic eggs’ rumors

DIMAPUR, JULY 25 (MExN): The Directorate of Health and Family Welfare today informed that following reports of “plastic eggs” collected in Kohima from a vendor on July 7, the samples were sent to the State Public Health Laboratory for testing. “As per the findings of the Food Analyst, based on the parameters performed on Cell membrane, egg shell (test for CaCO3), Protein (Ninhydrin and Biuret Test) and synthetic color, the alleged plastic egg, so tested was found not to be made of plastic or artificial matter,” a press note from the Joint Director, Food Safety informed today. It further informed that in the event of food adulteration, food poisoning, suspicious food items, Sub-Standard food items, best before food items, etc., the consumer can get the samples tested for confirmation by informing the CMO (D.O) or by sending the samples to Food Analyst, State Public Health Laboratory, Para Medical Colony, Kohima, or inform the concerned Food Safety Officer.
