Much to the amazement of the rural populace, 16-year-old Ketsino Jane Frances has put the lone high school in Phesama, St Paul School, on the map by securing the 2nd position in the Nagaland Board of School Education High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) 2024 which was declared today.

Despite putting in a zealous preparation and performance in the examination, Frances had no idea to secure the 2nd rank. In her own words, she puts, “based on my preparation, I was expecting a good result but not expecting a top rank” and this altogether was surprising and joy to her.

She expresses satisfaction over the things around her giving credit to God, her parents, teachers and dear ones. Nonetheless, she attributes her success to her teachers in the school whom Frances notes has provided her 'immense guidance' right from “nursery till matriculation.”

She had studied in the school in her native villages not void of any facility which Frances says that she is “happy to study from my own village and getting all the facilities which helped me to achieve this far.”

The topper adds that her success comes from God and the unwavering support and prayer of her parents and near ones who has created an environment to help her grow and excel as a student.

Reflecting on the preparation she had made for the exam, Frances recalls that she dedicated 7 hours a day to prepare her subjects and was tutored for another 2 hours, particularly for mathematics subjects which is also her favourite.

This hints to her next course she will pursue as the topper adds that she will be pursuing Science stream.

Putting a note of encouragement, she asked students to work hard, have confidence in oneself, give time to God, be disciplined, sincere and humble in whatever one does. “I aspire to become a civil service exam,” she added.
