Over 100 children in Kohima observes Kids’ Athletics Day

In commemoration of Kids’ Athletics Day, the Kohima District Athletics Association (KDAA) today organised a race among the young boys and girls at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Junction, Kohima. The event was participated by over 100 children from various schools in Kohima.

The race was flag-off by Dziesebeinuo Vizo, Vice President of Nagaland Athletics and Administrator of Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

Speaking during event, she shared that the Kids Athletics Day is an event, promoted by the international body for  athletics all over the World.

It is held under the aegis of World Athletics, Athletics Federation of India and Nagaland Athletics.

“It gives a fantastic opportunity for children to celebrate the spirit of sports while getting the platform to discover their sporting talents,” she said.

Athletics is all about walking, running, jumping and throwing. All these skills are fundamental not just to all sports disciplines, but in life as well. That is why Athletics is considered as the foundation of all sports, she said.

Sports liberates young people and empowers them to strive towards their aspirations, she said.

During the briefing, KDAA technical advisor Neilazetuo Khezhie thanked all the participants, schools & teachers in charges for coming forward to celebrate the Kids Athletics Day and making the program a grand success.

Earlier, KDAA President Thepfungunyu Solo said that the event was held under the theme “World Mile Challenge”. He said that the Kids Athletics Day is an annual event aimed at promoting fitness, sportsmanship, and a healthy lifestyle among children. He further shared that ‘World Mile Challenge’ will not only test the physical abilities of the children but also foster a sense of camaraderie and achievement.
