Essay competitions on Child Rights held for students

Tuensang, October 25 (MExN): The District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) of Tuensang and Longleng organized essay competitions on child rights in their respective districts on October 24. The contests were held with an aim to promote awareness on the basic legal provisions of Child Rights among the younger generations.  

In Tuensang, the school level competition on the topic ‘Child Rights’ was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Tuensang with students of Class VII, VIII & IX taking part. Cheliam Khiamniungan, Legal Aid Counsel & Master Trainer from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority gave a brief highlight on Child Rights and their protection system. Yimtsusangla, Retainer Lawyer of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority and Antimangyang, Panel Lawyer of Tuensang DLSA interacted with the students and spoke on fundamental aspects of Child Rights and Legal Services’ benefit and assistance. 12 students participated in the essay competition, among which, three were adjudged as winners. Mongshai Shiu of Class IX bagged the first prize, Tongpangkumla of class IX bagged the second and Jongphe B of class VIII was declared the third winner.  

In Longleng, the district level essay competition on the topic ‘Child Rights in India’ was organized with assistance from school authorities and faculty members of St. Thomas School, Tamlu circle, Longleng. Panel Lawyers and members of Longleng DLSA coordinated the programme and enlightened the students on the salient features of Child Rights and also on various issues related to Child Protection prevalent in the country. A total of 27 students from three schools within Tamlu circle participated in the competition. The students were from the Government High Schools and St. Thomas School.
